In 2026, most Ontario couples can expect a wedding venue to cost roughly $3,000 to $15,000 for the space alone, or about $100 to $250 per guest when food and service are bundled in. Toronto and peak Saturdays sit at the top of that range; Southwestern Ontario, weekdays and winter dates sit lower.
- Budget venues: about $3,000 to $8,000 (approximate, before HST).
- Mid-range halls and estates: about $8,000 to $15,000.
- Premium GTA ballrooms: $15,000 to $25,000 or more.
Who this is for: couples planning a wedding anywhere in Ontario, with notes for Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex and London where prices often run below the GTA.
What is the typical price range for an Ontario wedding venue?
The venue is usually the single biggest line in a wedding budget, and the range is wide. The table below gives approximate 2026 ranges, based on published Ontario venue listings and wedding-planning price guides.
| Venue tier | Space only (approx.) | Bundled with food (approx., per guest) |
|---|---|---|
| Budget: community halls, parks, small rooms | $400 to $3,000 | $60 to $110 |
| Affordable: banquet halls, barns, wineries off-peak | $3,000 to $8,000 | $100 to $160 |
| Mid-range: established halls, estates, golf clubs | $8,000 to $15,000 | $140 to $200 |
| Premium: GTA ballrooms, luxury hotels | $15,000 to $25,000+ | $180 to $300+ |
All figures are approximate and usually exclude 13% HST and a 15 to 20% service charge or gratuity. Prices vary by date, guest count and vendor, so treat this as a starting point for quotes, not a final number. For the full budget beyond the venue, see how much a wedding costs in Ontario.
Do venues charge per guest or a flat fee?
Both models are common in Ontario. Banquet halls and hotels usually quote a per-guest package with a food and beverage minimum, while barns, estates and rental spaces more often charge a flat room fee and let you bring a caterer.
- Per-guest package: easier to compare, and the room fee is often reduced or waived once you meet the minimum.
- Flat rental fee: looks cheaper at first, but you then add catering, rentals, staff and cleanup.
- Minimum spend: a dollar amount you must reach on food and drink, which rises on Saturdays in summer.
What does a wedding venue price usually include?
A full-service banquet hall typically includes tables, chairs, basic linens, staff and a coordinator; a bare rental space typically includes only the room and washrooms. Ask for the inclusions list in writing before you compare prices.
| Item | Full-service hall | Rental-only space |
|---|---|---|
| Tables and chairs | Usually included | Often extra |
| Catering and kitchen | In-house | Hire your own |
| Bar and licence | Usually in-house | Special occasion permit may be needed |
| Setup and cleanup staff | Included | Often your job or extra |
| Event coordinator | Often included | Rarely |
In Ontario, events serving alcohol outside a licensed venue generally need a Special Occasion Permit from the AGCO, which is one more cost and task to plan for with a rental-only space.
Is a wedding venue cheaper outside Toronto?
Generally, yes. Published planning guides put a full GTA wedding well above weddings elsewhere in Ontario, and venue fees follow the same pattern.
That gap is why some GTA and London couples look at Southwestern Ontario venues. Our guide for couples coming from the GTA covers travel and hotels.
How can you pay less for a wedding venue?
The fastest way to lower the price is to change the date, not the guest list. Venues have fixed costs, so they discount the days that are hardest to fill.
- Pick a Friday, Sunday or weekday. Many venues discount these days noticeably compared with summer Saturdays.
- Consider November to March. Winter is the slow season for most Ontario halls, and rates often drop.
- Hold the ceremony on site. One location saves a second rental fee and transport between venues.
- Choose a full-service hall. Bundled food, bar, decor and staff often cost less than sourcing them separately.
- Ask what is negotiable. Room fees, cake cutting, and setup times are often flexible; tax and gratuity are not.
Quick answers
What is the average cost of a wedding venue in Ontario?
Most Ontario couples spend roughly $8,000 to $15,000 on the venue in 2026, with budget options from about $3,000 and premium GTA venues above $15,000. These are approximate ranges before HST.
Does the venue price include HST in Ontario?
Usually not. Most Ontario quotes are before 13% HST and before a service charge of about 15 to 20%, so add both when you budget.
How much of the wedding budget should go to the venue?
A common rule of thumb is that the venue and catering together take about 40 to 50% of the total budget. If food is bundled into the venue price, expect that single line to be the largest in your plan.
Is a Friday wedding cheaper in Ontario?
Usually, yes. Fridays, Sundays and weekdays are easier for venues to discount than Saturdays, especially from May to October.
How far ahead should I book a wedding venue?
Most couples book 12 to 18 months ahead for a summer Saturday. Weekday and winter dates can often be booked with less notice.
